it took you this long to realise how much they copy?  They have been doing it for years.

I had heard about  R.D. drawing a lot from Western Classical...but one must give him credit for adapting the tunes well to Hindi lyrics....There's a lot of music in the Hindi film industry that is "inspired".....The song "Haan Mujhe Pyar Hain" is a straight pick from some Indonesian song, for instance...Nice informative blog.

True..Uma..mebbe copying tunes is a simple way out. to garner the hoglights ..but it will definitely come under the scanner some day or the other!

True..many ppl think that by copying the tunes..u r making it popular in the country where most of the ppl wud not hv heard of the music ...but in a scenario, where music is increasingly becoming global...it wud be a shame for us to borrow frm others tunes...remember they wud be listening to our music too...plus there is a huge risk involved of infrining copyrights!

Yes kalyanee...yes the RD bit was disappointing of the lot...bcoz he is considered the GURU by so many youngsters today..wonder how they will react to this!

i was surprised that even A.R. Rehman is in the list....and i thought he conjures up magic when he makes music!

Your article is really well written.  The 'Tumse Milkar Na Jane Kyon' song is quite a favourite of mine too.  Every now and then we hear that a particular song is a straight lift etc.  Probably it's not for dearth of original talent.. it's  simply that they take the easy way out for instant success.  And another reason being the attitude that when others are doing it, why not I?  Uma

Hello istroller,

I often wonder why we as listeners are dejected...angered...outraged whenever we realize that a tune that we cherised for long is brazenly lifted.

What emotion drives this emotion? A sense of being cheated? The realization that the music composer is a worthless copycat?

But then...in the absence of these inspired individuals...we would be deprived of so many lilting tunes...lifted or otherwise!

I do not endorse plagiarism...no sir...

I was similarly shocked when I realized that one of my fave songs 'Katra Katra' from Ijazat was lifted by RD

And I loved them songs from Life in a Metro...

But then such is life...

Always
PF

Sad.....talents borrowed!
The R.D bit was disappointing, especially.
Pritam's songs r mostly stolen tunes.
